In May of 2007 visual artists, bands, dj’s, live aerosol artists, a fire performer and many viewer-participants gathered in Tucson, Arizona for a playful night of art, multimedia, performance and music. This convergent event, which embodied the creative spirit of a community, was given the name Autopoiesis. Based on the success of this gathering, organizers of the event realized that it was a process worth repeating.

Literally meaning “auto (self) – creation”, Autopoiesis was birthed in the spirit of creative collaboration and organic communal gathering. Specifically, organizers were interested in bringing people together in order to share in the vision of emergent artistic talents in a non-commercial context. The mission remains the same to this day.

Autopoiesis continues to seek out emergent artists, musicians, thinkers and cultural explorers to share their creative works. Once each year this collaborative effort invites the public to actively participate in a process of autopoetic self-creation. We believe the possibilities to be limited only to the imagination of our community; a prospect which excites us to no end.
